Stores & Businesses

Goodwill SWPA’s thrift stores are the “backbone” of our organization, offering training and employment opportunities for clients and consumers, and contributing nearly half of our annual revenues.

Located throughout southwestern Pennsylvania and north central West Virginia, our well-known stores are supplied by an extensive system for the collection of donated goods.

The donated goods we receive every day at our stores, at Attended Donation Centers, and in collection boxes are the “lifeblood” of Goodwill’s retail operations, making it possible for us to help thousands of people throughout the year.

Cars & Computers

Goodwill’s vehicle donation and auction program – the largest nonprofit auto auction operation in the U.S. – is a significant source of revenue for our agency. Donated cars, trucks, motorcycles and recreational vehicles are auctioned to the public every Tuesday at the Goodwill Auto Auction in North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County.  Call 1-888-30-40-CAR for information or to donate a vehicle.

We also operate a special retail outlet dedicated entirely to selling donated computers and related equipment. ComputerWorks of South Side, currently located in the South Side store located 2700 East Carson Street, offers a wide selection of merchandise including donated desktop computers, laptops, monitors, hard drives, software, etc. Computers and related items can be donated at any Goodwill store or Attended Donation Center.

Alliance of Nonprofit Stores

Goodwill is a founding member of the Alliance of Nonprofit Stores, a collaborative effort of local, reputable charitable agencies that was created in 2004. The two-fold mission of ANS is to make a proactive, positive impact on the way consumers think about donating goods for resale by educating them on responsible donation practices, and to enrich the communities served by endorsing charitable giving to nonprofit outlets that use the proceeds from retail sales to benefit local community programs.

Representing 30+ thrift and resale stores, ANS members urge donors to give the same careful thought and consideration to where they donate used clothing and household items as they do to where they donate money.

Donating to true nonprofit organizations helps the local community in several ways. It keeps tons of usable goods out of landfills; provides jobs, job training, and other opportunities for thousands of individuals; maintains a steady flow of affordable, high-quality items available for resale; and offers local nonprofits a way to generate revenue that is measurably returned to the community through positive life-changing human and social services.

"There are two areas of learning in the program which stand out. The first is instruction in reading and understanding typical job descriptions found in Internet job postings. The second area is training in interviewing skills, such as attire, demeanor, appropriate answers to common questions, how to handle behavioral-based questions, and other important soft skills for interviewing."

Through Goodwill's Deaf Job Readiness Program, Jennefer has increased her chances of successful employment.
