Goodwill Renews!
A Campaign for Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania
In these uncertain economic times, Goodwill’s programs are more essential than ever. It is responding to the growing community need caused by the residual effects of joblessness and the economy by increasing capacity in all areas. By providing important functions such as workforce development, education, job training, and career services, supplementing these with affordable, recycled clothing and household goods, and providing jobs, Goodwill performs vital community services with far-reaching positive effects.
As demand for its services and programs have increased due to the lingering economic difficulties, Goodwill has responded by taking several “future-focused” steps to expand its capacity to serve more clients. Most significantly, it sold its long-time headquarters building on Pittsburgh’s South Side, which severely hampered the agency in several ways, and is creating a new Workforce Development Center in the Lawrenceville section of the city.
To enable Goodwill to meet the increased demand for existing programs and to develop new services at its Workforce Development Center, the agency has launched a two-year, $14.5-million capital campaign—$6.5 million of which is coming from the sale of its South Side property. Through the new Workforce Development Center, Goodwill will become more efficient in its operations, more progressive in its client services, more responsive to community needs, and more accessible to donors. The new facility will ensure that programs and services of Goodwill continue to grow, expand, and respond to the needs of the community—carrying out its mission and providing a fundamental and indispensable public service to the people and communities of this region.
