What is the Construction Junction Job Training Program?

Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Construction Junction Training Program provides hands-on training for individuals who have the goal of competitive employment. There are two tracts available. Tract 1 deals with materials handling, deconstruction and stocking. Tract 2 contains customer service, cashiering, stocking and merchandising.

What are the benefits of the Construction Junction Job Training Program?

Job Skills Training

Participants gain hands-on work experience and develop a variety of skills while also gaining increased independence, confidence and self-esteem. This is accomplished through classroom instruction and on-the-job training supported by Goodwill and Construction Junction staff.

While in training, participants are held to the same standard as Construction Junction employees. Participants who successfully complete the training will be given consideration for open positions at Construction Junction.

Job Readiness
Participants attend curriculum-based job readiness classes that prepare them for competitive employment. Modules include:

  • Work social skills
  • Interviewing skills
  • Workplace etiquette

Job Placement and Job Development
Upon completion of the program, participants receive guidance and support through job readiness classes and other individualized services in applying and interviewing for Construction Junction or other similar positions. They can do so through Goodwill’s Career Servce Center or funder-supported job placement services. On-going job development efforts are made by Goodwill staff to develop relationships with prospective employers who are looking for the skills and experiences of the individuals who have completed the program.

Job Coaching/Case Management Services
Job Coaching may be provided to assist participants with identifying potential employers, scheduling and attending interviews, and exploring transportation options. Continued support is determined on a case by case basis. Services may include: adapting to the work environment, securing transportation, counseling regarding work-related skills, and accessing resources necessary to maintain employment.

Who is eligible?

Individuals who have the goal and motivation to obtain and retain competitive hands-on employment in a warehouse environment, and who have been screened and referred by an overseeing funding agency or service provider, may apply to the Construction Junction Training Program. Final determinations are made after completing an application and interview with Construction Junction management and staff.
