What are digital badges?

People who are unsure about their computer skills now have a way to easily assess what they know, pinpoint what they need to learn, and earn digital badges that show employers what they know.

Digital badges are credentials that appear in an individual’s personal or professional online portfolio. They are more than just icon or a symbol because they can be hyperlinked so that prospective employers, training providers, or post-secondary education institutions can click on the badge to find out what skills it represents, who designed it, who affirms it, and more.

Who issues digital badges?

The Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment, a widely-used online assessment tool, issues digital badges upon completion of digital certifications. The badge is then stored in a Badge Backpack, a webpage that serves as a portable portfolio that can be shared with employers or other stakeholders who need to know that person’s skills and experience.
