Representatives of the Donated Goods Retail Program of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania recently accepted the Goodwill Industries International (GII) “Growing the Business Comparable Growth Award.” The award was presented by GII at the Goodwill Summer Learning Event in Charlotte, NC.
The Growing the Business Comparable Growth Award recognizes the organization with the highest growth rate in donated goods revenue from the existing retail footprint over the previous year. Goodwill SWPA’s program earned the award for the best results in the category among 162 Goodwill organizations in the United States and Canada. This is the first time in Goodwill SWPA’s history that it has received this national GII award.
“We are extremely proud to win this wonderful award,” said Andrew Marano, Goodwill SWPA’s Vice President for Donated Goods Retail. “Our success starts with the thousands of generous and loyal Goodwill donors and shoppers. We are also very fortunate to have a dedicated and talented team in all of our Goodwill stores and donation centers. They all do tremendous work turning donations into dollars to support our mission.”
Over 90% of all revenue raised by Goodwill SWPA supports the agency mission to help people improve their quality of life through work and related services.
Goodwill SWPA operates 33 donated goods thrift stores within its service territory. This includes 27 stores in southwestern Pennsylvania and six stores in north central West Virginia. Goodwill SWPA will open its 34th area store in Century Square in West Mifflin in early fall of 2017. Goodwill SWPA stores employ nearly 1,000 individuals.
