Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania is now offering free high school equivalency preparation courses at Pittsburgh Community Services, Inc. (PCSI), 249 North Craig Street, Oakland. Courses and testing are available for the GED or HiSET tests to earn a Pennsylvania high school diploma.
The preparation classes incorporate reading comprehension, math computation, academic language and reasoning within the subject area contexts on the tests – Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Participants are placed in small classes with individuals on a similar level.
Students interested in the prep courses must schedule a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) placement test at Goodwill to help assess the best class placement. Once the test is taken, a program facilitator will contact participants within one week to schedule an orientation and help select the best class times. The instructor will work with participants to determine readiness for taking each part of the GED or HiSET test.
In addition to the free classes, participants have access to additional Goodwill offerings, including career services, digital skills training and financial education. Participants will also receive a 25 percent discount to shop at Goodwill stores in the area.
