Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania is now an approved Pre-Employment Transition Services (PETS) provider for the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) and the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) in West Virginia. As a PETS Provider, Goodwill will offer both group and individual services for high school students with disabilities through its Transition Services Department. Students will be provided the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills needed to obtain competitive integrated employment or transition to post-secondary training.
“We are excited to offer PETS because it allows high school students with disabilities the opportunity to engage in career-readiness and work-based experiences at an earlier age,” said Holly Opatick, Director of Transition Services at Goodwill SWPA. “We hope many students will take advantage of these new services.”
Group services include workplace readiness training to help students find and maintain competitive integrated employment, including soft skills training, interview skills, job readiness, job-seeking skills and HR practices.
Individual services include job shadowing and work-based learning experiences that take place in integrated community settings and are selected based on the student’s interests, skills and location. Job shadowing will provide students a one to five day experience, for a maximum of 25 hours per school year, in an occupation of interest within the community. Work-based learning experiences may include in-school opportunities, or experience outside the traditional school setting, including internships.
These new services are offered across Goodwill’s service territory in Southwestern Pennsylvania and North Central West Virginia. For more information, visit http://www.goodwillswpa.org/PETS.
