Goodwill to participate in #GivingTuesday  for the fifth straight year

You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday?  Now a new day in the holiday season is gathering momentum – a day to give back!

Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania announced today that for the fifth year in a row, it will join #GivingTuesday, a national initiative that celebrates and encourages charitable activities on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The movement was established in 2012 to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to charitable giving, similar to the emphasis on holiday shopping and consumerism represented by Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

“Following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday on November 28 is a great time to give back to your community,” said Erika Romano, Goodwill SWPA’s Development and Special Events Assistant. “The goal is to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world.”

#GivingTuesday encourages families and individuals to be generous in whatever ways matter to them on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause. Last year, over 2,500 charities, volunteer organizations, corporations, and foundations came together in all 50 states through #GivingTuesday.

“Goodwill SWPA is proud to be a #GivingTuesday partner,” Mrs. Romano said. “We are participating in this national movement to increase awareness, participation, and charitable support for the clients we serve, hardworking individuals in our community who face barriers to employment.”
