PITTSBURGH, Pa., August 28, 2015 – Nominations are invited for the 19th annual Power of Work Awards sponsored by Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania to recognize employers and organizations that offer workforce development to those with special needs. The nomination deadline is September 18. Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon on November 18 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.
Goals of the awards program are to recognize efforts by employers and/or organizations that support workforce development for individuals with special needs or barriers to employment, and also to encourage all employers to emulate the actions and achievements of the winners. Since the program’s inception in 1997, Goodwill has presented Power of Work Awards to more than 45 different employers.
The competition is open to employers of all types and sizes in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
“Anyone can submit a nomination and any employer can win,” said Brittany Reno, Development & Special Events Specialist for Goodwill. “Employers are encouraged to nominate themselves, and nominations also may be submitted by employees, other businesses or organizations, and referral agencies. Just about anyone can nominate an employer who goes above and beyond and deserves recognition for their commitment to workforce development.”
An independent panel of human service and human resources professionals, civic leaders, and members of the academic community will evaluate the nominees’ efforts in support of workforce development and in creating enhanced opportunities for people who face various barriers to employment.
