RISE Project for Young Adults and Youth
Now Recruiting Participants
Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s RISE (Reentry through Industry Specific Education) Project is currently seeking candidates for the program. Now entering its sixth year, the successful construction job-training program focuses on individuals 17-24 who need to earn their GED®. Ten additional individuals who already have their high school diploma/GED®, and are between 16 and 18 years of age will also be accepted. As part of the RISE program, individuals who are in need of their GED® will be enrolled in Goodwill’s free GED® classes and can take all GED® tests at no cost.
In its first five years, nearly 250 individuals have participated in RISE, resulting in job placement in positions such as skilled laborers in machine manufacturing, construction, concrete, roofing and furniture repair.
The RISE Project is a construction job-training offered in conjunction with Pittsburgh Community Services Inc. (PCSI). PCSI’s curriculum covers topics including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, brick masonry, landscaping and painting. In addition to the exposure to the trades, participants will earn their OSHA-30 Certificate upon successful completion of all requirements.
All RISE Project participants will receive construction and life skills training, job placement assistance, paid and unpaid work experience, case management, and counseling. Additionally, the program includes free lunches, bus passes during the training period, and driver’s education classes (if eligible). RISE Project participants will also receive the opportunity to take the GED® for free. The ten-week training program will be
conducted at Goodwill’s facility located at 2400 East Carson Street on Pittsburgh’s South Side. Program hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00AM through 3:30PM.
Eligible candidates for the RISE Project are individuals between the ages of 17-24 who are in need of their GED and who have a barrier to employment and reside in the city of Pittsburgh or Allegheny County. In addition to Goodwill and PCSI, RISE partners include the Partner4Work, Allegheny County Juvenile Probation, and the Pennsylvania Career Technical Training Alliance.
