Spring Is Almost Here!

Spring is almost here, so it’s time to get a jump on your spring cleaning to clear out the clutter that accumulated over the past few months by donating unwanted items to Goodwill.

“With winter finally drawing to a close, now is the time to start thinking about spring cleaning by sorting through all the stuff that somehow built up in our closets, attics, basements and garages over the winter,” said Michael J. Smith, President/CEO of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania.  “We also have a greater need for donations because of the three new Goodwill Stores we will be opening very soon,” added Smith.

New Goodwill stores will open in Westover, West Virginia in May, Cranberry Township in June, and at Century Square in West Mifflin later in the summer. In addition to clothing, shoes and belts, Goodwill is in the greatest need of donations of housewares, including items such as glassware, pots and pans, baskets, pictures and frames, and sporting goods.

Mr. Smith also noted that Goodwill accepts donations of electronic devices, free of charge, including computers, printers, monitors, keyboards, mice, hard drives, fax machines, DVD players, VCRs and cell phones.Donations can be dropped off at any Goodwill store or Attended Donation Center. Visit to find the nearest location.

Goodwill has also developed a program to enable businesses, schools, clubs or other organizations to raise funds for their programs by hosting a donation drive. Donation drives allow organizations to promote team and community spirit, while helping to keep goods out of landfills.   For more information about hosting a donation drive, contact Bryan Engel, Donations Acquisition Coordinator, at (412) 632-1876 or visit
