Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s RISE (Reentry through Industry Specific Education) Project is currently seeking candidates for the program.  Now entering its seventh year, the successful program now has two specific program areas of focus for participants ages 17-24: those looking to start a career but who don’t have a high school diploma or GED; and those with a high school diploma looking to start working within three months as a start to their career.

In its first six years, nearly 300 individuals have participated in RISE, resulting in successful job placement for many in various skilled positions.

“We know that participants find RISE very valuable,” said Tiffanee Heywood, Assistant Director of YouthWorks at Goodwill.  “They have told us that they feel camaraderie with the other students and that they appreciate the opportunities RISE gives to people.”

For individuals needing their GED, RISE offers several training programs that can be completed by participants in as little as ten weeks and can be combined with GED classes and other opportunities. Training areas include: culinary arts, machinery, and masonry and general laboring.  Participants also receive help with transportation, employment services, financial literacy assistance, a dedicated case worker, and a monetary stipend upon completion of the program.

For out-of-school individuals who have a GED or high school diploma, RISE offers the opportunity to receive an industry-specific state-issued certificate, the premier job readiness curriculum called JumpStart Success, and employment in less than three months. Additional features include:

  • mobile case managers able to meet at convenient locations,
  • assistance with writing resumes and cover letters,
  • interview preparation and mock interviews,
  • direct connections with local hiring businesses,
  • individualized job search planning,
  • centralized community service activities to assist in job readiness, transportation assistance,
  • support to help participants maintain employment.

Both programs are WIOA eligible and currently offer rolling admission and start dates through December.  For more information on RISE or any of Goodwill SWPA’s youth programs, visit: www.goodwillswpa.org/youth-services.  To enroll in RISE, contact 412-632-1742 or tiffanee.heywood@goodwillswpa.org.
