YouthWorks is currently seeking area employers to serve as host locations this summer for youth in the HIRE program. HIRE (Hiring Initiative to Ready future Employees) is a capstone experience for youth participants, connecting them with quality internship and employment opportunities within corporate, government, and nonprofit organizations. Students will be placed with host employers for a six week stretch beginning in late June.
YouthWorks, a program of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, provides work-readiness training, career exploration, and employment experiences to our region’s at-risk youth.
“As the summer approaches, YouthWorks is gearing up to place over 200 youth in their career paths, but we cannot do it alone!”, said Tiffanee Heywood, Assistant Director of YouthWorks. “We hope more area employers will consider taking an active role in helping to shape our region’s future workforce by becoming an employment host this summer.”
YouthWorks pays the wages of the youth and clearances for the youth if needed. YouthWorks also serves as the contact between the host employers and youth to address any questions/concerns that arise during the placement.
Employer hosts will need to be able to supervise the youth, create a work schedule for 25 hours per week, and sign off on a weekly time log. Additionally, the supervisor and back-up supervisor of the youth must have criminal record and child abuse clearances. A copy of existing records is sufficient if they were processed within a year from Sept. 1, 2015. If a supervisor does not have clearances, YouthWorks can pay to have clearances processed.
Employer host locations need to be secured by April 22, 2016.
