PITTSBURGH, March 25, 2015 – Start gathering family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to help Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania by participating in the 13th Annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community on Saturday, May 16, at Stage AE on the North Shore.

Goodwill is one of 75 local nonprofit organizations that will participate in the event presented by Highmark Inc., which underwrites the entire cost so that 100 percent of the money raised by walkers goes to the participating organizations.

“Goodwill is very excited to take part in this year’s Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, and we are so grateful to Highmark for sponsoring this great community event,” said Brittany Reno, Development and Special Events Specialist. “We invite all of Goodwill’s many friends and supporters throughout the Pittsburgh region to join us in supporting Goodwill’s mission of helping people improve their quality of life through work and related services. Our goal this year is to recruit over 150 walkers and to raise more than $9,000.”

Presented in five Pennsylvania communities during May and June, the Highmark Walk benefits local health and human service agencies across the state and has raised $7.8 million for more than 250 nonprofit organizations since its inception in 2003. The primary goal is to help participating organizations raise money for their individual missions. The secondary goal is to energize individuals to have a greater hand in their health by becoming or staying physically active.

Register now to walk for Goodwill at  or contact Brittany Reno, Development and Special Events Specialist, at 412-632-1934 or for more information.

The first 100 people to register will receive a Goodwill backpack. Walkers who raise $25 or more will receive a Highmark Walk t-shirt the day of the event and have a chance at raffle prizes valued at over $1,000, and those who raise $100 or more will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Visa gift card or $25 Goodwill gift card.
