Pittsburgh, PA. – October 19, 2015 – The public is invited to attend an Open House for YouthWorks out-of-school youth programs on Wednesday, October 28 at 2400 East Carson Street in Pittsburgh’s Southside.  Those attending the event will be able to learn about YouthWorks’ job training and education services that are geared toward helping local youth who need to find employment. From 12:30-3:30 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to meet YouthWorks staff, tour the facility, and gain an understanding of the enrollment process. 

A program of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania, YouthWorks provides career building experiences to at-risk youth to help develop their potential and achieve social and economic upward mobility. Since its inception, YouthWorks has served over 23,000 youth throughout Allegheny County through career exploration, work readiness training, and employment opportunities.

The programs featured at the Open House are targeted to out-of-school youth between the ages of 17 and 24, and are free to eligible participants.  Programs featured at the Open House include: 

  • The RISE Project which offers GED prep and hands-on vocational education. RISE teaches academics, life skills and work readiness training, and includes service learning, job shadowing and internships. 
  • YouthWorks Employment Initiative which is a work readiness program designed to provide work experience to African American males who are emancipated from the foster care system.
  • AUNO (Age Up, Not Out) which is a comprehensive program to help youth emancipated from the foster care system to become economically successful through work-readiness and career exploration.
