Take the next steps to starting a career in information technology by preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification through training from Goodwill!

This program is great for individuals with no prior experience working in the tech industry interested in pursuing a career in technical support or establishing the foundation to work in system networking or cybersecurity.

How does the program work?

Over the course of two 16-week terms, students learn about mobile devices, networking technology, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing, installing and configuring operating systems, expanded security, software troubleshooting, and operational procedures.

Classes are held three evenings per week from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. One evening will be at our Workforce Development Center in Lawrenceville with the other two evenings taught virtually.

At the conclusion of each term, students will sit for an exam. Two exams must be passed in order to receive the CompTIA A+ certification.

How much does the program cost?

Full scholarships are provided to all participants covering the cost of instruction, learning resources, and the certification exam.*

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Able to travel to class in Lawrenceville one evening per week (on bus line/free parking lot)
  • Access to internet at home
  • Laptop or desktop (loaner device is available as needed)
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be enrolled in a program that will result in a diploma or equivalent prior to the completion of the certificate program
  • Currently hold the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ certification, have completed similar coursework demonstrating understanding of technology systems, or have at least one year relevant experience (paid or unpaid, etc.). We will work with you to identify the required documentation based on your experience.

  • Prepare for additional professional credentials such as the CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+.

CompTIA A+ FAQ

The goal of the admissions process is to determine if this program is a good fit for you. We will be in regular communication with you from beginning to end.

You will begin by completing an online application to gather information about who you are and what career goals you have.

Once your application has been reviewed and program eligibility is verified, you will be contacted via email about scheduling an interview to discuss your application and answer any questions you may have.

Based on a review of all this information, you will receive an email regarding your acceptance status.

We want to see you succeed! As a result, the following expectations are in place for your benefit:

  • Be actively engaged in class through asking questions, participating in discussions, and focusing fully during class time
  • Have an attendance record of 85% or higher
  • Complete assigned readings and practice labs
  • Attend all required meetings with Career Services staff
  • Plan to seek new employment or increase responsibility in your current position
  • At the conclusion of each term, sit for the corresponding CompTIA A+ exam

The CompTIA A+ certification is designed for individuals who have had some level of IT training or experience and are prepared to engage in a more extensive study of the topic. Because this course is not intended to be an introduction to information technology, participants are expected to have a baseline knowledge already.

Individuals interested in starting to pursue an IT career are encouraged to apply to the CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ program. This eight-week course is designed to build a foundation to prepare students for courses such as CompTIA A+.
